+ limited edition MW t-shirts will be available!

This is it, the final Makeout!

Thats right, on the 3 year anniversary of weird, this is the last installment!!

We are super excited Maniqui Lazer will be playing!! After an extended hiatus, this trio of weirdos, originally from Mexicali, is just beginning to freak people out in person again. Their mix of experimental electronic dance-punk has already made a mark on the face of subculture and they are back in full force! Members include Valentin Torres of Vampire Slayer and Jung Sing, the wildly drummer of the now disbanded All Leather. Jung and Manaqui Lazer bassist Rodo also play in a band called Black Cells.

We are also very pleased Machino will be part of the night! - A previous member of the post hardcore band Mae Machino and the DJ duo Loud Noises. His electronica offerings have hit Beatport's charts more than once. We are looking forward to his experiments!

The three amigos of Moonshake will be manning the DJ booth into the night! These are the cats that ran the long running Moonshake parties at Kadan, before the bar closed down. Lee Reynolds, Mark E. Quark, and Dazzla are masters of dance party shenanigans!! Prepare for "an adventure into future disco, spacey house, and techey grooves!"

MAKEOUT WEIRD (MW) is a cross subcultural event consisting of visual art, live music, and DJs. It occurs the third Thursday of each month at The Whistle Stop located in San Diego, and is always free and open to the public.

The usual line up consists of one or two live musical performances, two DJs, and an art opening by two local artist's works unveiled for a week long stay showing.

MW was created in April of 2010 by Heather Brosche who has co curated with Bobby Bray since July 2010. As a couple, Heather and Bobby see Makeout Weird functioning as a bridge of sorts between many worlds:
  • Local artists, bands, djs, inventors, professors, experimentalists

Strap yourselves 'on' people...

Hot Nerds is gonna' show you how! This hot nerdy couple: Nathan (guitarist of All Leather) and Alia (of Christwaves / Say Wen) are serious when it comes to having a good time, cum let them put you in the mood!

MW is so very proud to have DJ femmeDisturbance (AKA Micha Cárdenas) & <elle.mermaid> in the DJ booth this month! Well known globally for her technology based gender bending 'transreal' art, Micha has been one of the most provocative professors UCSD has ever had! Combining efforts with her partner Elle (singer of Assembly of Mazes and an amazing artist / teacher on her own), they are redefining the world together! Come drink / dance to their booty shakin' dj sets!

Every month Makeout Weird curates art at the Whistle Stop for a week long stay. This month we are happy to have the works of Manvi Singh and Nocomply!

With members living in Tijuana and members living in Chula Vista, Bumbklaatt is a manifestation of a transcendence beyond human-made borders. Their contribution to the collective subculture entity is a contemporary representation of the long evolutionary history of punk/hardcore. Having been highly active in organizing shows over the years (including Iguanas, many moons ago) guitarist Ubaldo is a living embodiment of a regional history. But these humble gentlemen don't mess around when they play. Make no mistake, they will bring an international ruckus to the Whistlestop!

Ana Brown is co-founder of the Roots Factory collective here in San Diego. They hold open screen printing workshops, have a gallery which hosts events for international artists and musicians, function as a think tank, and promote "peace, protest and self-empowerment." But this MW she'll be promoting no wave, punk and dance jams from the Dj booth!

Continuing her Makeout Weird-ness, Monsterpussy will provide dance/punk that will be sure to get you shakin' in yer boots!

Every MW, new art is curated for a week long stay at the Whistlestop. This month, professional photographer Deena Ensworth's amazing work will be on display!

We are also proud to have the delicate and feminine art works of Mina Rahnema this month! Check out the links above; both artists will be present for the event!

This Saint Patricks day follow the advice of Ricardo Lepreclown and head to Saint Weird Patty's Day!

The one and only, Randy Chiurazzi will permanently alter your perception of reality! Wearing a custom "guitar suit" designed for instrument rubbing, he creates post Dada flavored manipulations that are sometimes meant as sound performance metaphors regarding deeply relevant existential issues. Don't miss this! If nothing else come to see the look on the faces of patrons expecting a nice and normal Saint Patrick's day!

The rest of the night will see Djs Freaksauce and Monsterpussy join forces as freakmonsterpussysauce. Alterations of traditional leprechaun music will be included!

Every month MW curates art for the Whistle Stop for a week long stay.

This month Amber Treadway, originally of Missouri, will have her 1st showing, works in the past included her unabashedly honest zine See-Sick which handled many usually uncomfortable issues. Also Randy Chiurazzi will be showing some hangable works!

Tailored visuals for the night will be projected by Monsterpussy, and Jess Lambard will be in back with her jewelry "Found Pieces"

Its time to weird again! Maybe you missed The Natives at Santee's Edgemoor Hospital in 06' well now's your chance to witness them live and in person at the Whistlestop, and you don't even have to be ill to be in attendance!
And maybe you caught Esteban Flores performing as a member of The League of Assholes at the 2nd Annual Experimental Guitar Show last month, maybe you didn't... either way this is your chance to come and hear the sound of Time/Space being ripped open at the hands of his other established endeavor, Monochromacy.

Dj Heabnasty has greased the wheels of the dance floor at the Brass Rail, Hillcrest Youth Center, Queen Bees, 'WE Wednesday' at U-31, and now Makeout Weird (MW) is proud to welcome her open minded flow varying from house/electro/indie/beach house re-edits/Toro y Moi singles and more!

Also, Dj/Vj Monsterpussy will be bringing freshly made vids for the night and music with a bit more of a strange feel this time around.

Every month at MW, new art work is curated for the Whistle Stop for a week long stay. This month we are extremely excited to have works shown by two amazing women: Shayna Why and Ana Brown! Check out their links above!

Ladies, gentlemen, trans gendered, non gendered, Californians, and Zandarnians...

This month's MW is proud to present Bill Wesley & Patrick Hadley for a very special set. You may have already heard of Array Instruments which local San Diegan's Bill and Patrick create and sell around the world. This will be a very rare opportunity for you to witness a performance from both masterminds!

Bill's innovative note arrangement structures musical harmony in an easily recognizable visual configuration. He claims this arrangement of notes, known as the "Array System" is also present in other fundamental concepts such as chemistry and physics! Truly some of the most imaginative creations happening on earth!

Chris Coroner of Array Light Orchestra will be performing analog visuals during their set.

Also performing will be local shoegaze newcomers, Colony, so make sure to polish up your sneakers kids, have a responsible drink or two, comfortably stare at the band, or your lover, or your friends, or the bartender, or... the art work that will begin its week-long residence at the Whistle Stop.

This month will include works by Kandice Guzman who has a background in fashion design as well as mixed media.

Also showing will be photographer Missi Sampson. Her keen eye for documentation stands out stylistically. She'll be showing a couple of her favorite Club Purple moments.

Speaking of Club Purple, its creator Miss Lady D will be making a long awaited return to San Diego happenings after having been more active south of the border in Tijuana's club scene.

MW resident/creator Monsterpussy will be kicking out the questionable sounds and dance jams as well as showing video projections tailor-made for the night.
